Repeat Prescriptions
In order to have your medication on repeat prescription you will need to have a seen a doctor first who will authorise your repeat medication.
You need to give the practice 48 hours for ordering and receiving your prescription.
This also applies if you are bringing in a letter from the hospital which is requesting new or a change to your medication.
If medication is required urgently the hospital should supply you with enough medication to last until we have had time to process this at the practice.
We will not process requests for repeat medication before it is due. If there are circumstances why you might need your prescription early, please speak to Karen, the Prescription Supervisor, or ask at reception.
There is a review date on every prescription, which might be three, six or twelve monthly. The review date is there so that the doctors can check that all clinical tests eg blood pressure checks, asthma reviews, bloods tests etc have all been done regularly, and that the prescription is accurate and can continue to be ordered on repeat.
When your medication review is due, the doctor will check your medication, tests etc and if everything is in order, you can continue to have your repeat medication until the next review date.
However, if tests etc are needed, you will be asked to make an appointment to see the doctor or nurse.
Staff are only allowed to order your medication from your repeat prescription side slip. They cannot order from empty boxes etc and for safety’s sake, must have the exact name of the medication you require from your current repeat medication list
